ATLANTA – For most Americans, spring officially begins when they tackle their first home project, according to The Home Depot’s 2025 Spring Project Report. The retailer’s nationwide survey reveals 64% of homeowners and renters mark the season’s arrival by cleaning windows, prepping grills, or clearing gardens rather than relying on the calendar.
Mental Health Benefits of Spring Cleaning
The report highlights surprising psychological benefits of seasonal home projects. Sixty-five percent of respondents actually enjoy spring cleaning, with 85% reporting mental health improvements and 80% feeling accomplished afterward. The data also shows a strong preference for cordless power tools (76%) over corded models for outdoor projects.
Gardening and Grilling Trends
Nearly half of Americans now identify as “plant parents,” with 68% saying gardening brings them joy. Mulch refreshment tops landscaping priorities at 52%. The survey also found grilling has become a year-round activity, with 62% using their grills in all seasons and 61% even cooking outdoors during winter holidays.
Retailer Supports Seasonal Projects
The Home Depot is launching its Spring Black Friday event April 3-16, featuring deals on outdoor power equipment and landscaping supplies. “These projects help cure spring fever for 76% of people,” said merchandising EVP Billy Bastek. The company’s new Magic Apron AI tool provides project guidance and product recommendations to assist DIYers.
Regional Project Variations Revealed
The comprehensive report includes an interactive state-by-state map showing regional project preferences. Nationwide, Americans are prioritizing both practical maintenance and lifestyle upgrades as warmer weather arrives, blending functionality with outdoor living enhancements.
