Mahr Launches Mar4D PLQ 4200 Cylinder CMM with Multisensor Tech

by Anna

Mahr Inc., a leading provider of dimensional metrology solutions, has introduced its new Mar4D PLQ 4200 line of cylinder coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). This advanced system combines multisensory technology and flexible workpiece handling, tailored for a broad range of industrial applications.

Designed for high-speed operation, the Mar4D PLQ 4200 delivers fast, accurate, and reliable measurements of complex rotationally symmetrical workpieces. It accommodates parts up to 210 mm (8.3 in) in diameter, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in length, and a maximum weight of 50 kg (110 lb). Its robust construction allows 3D measurements directly on the production floor, shortening throughput times, boosting flow rates, and enhancing overall productivity.

An optional centering and tilting table provides fully automated, CNC-controlled alignment to correct any workpiece misalignment. This feature enables precise measurement of parts that are not manufactured or measured between centers, using optical or tactile methods, achieving residual eccentricity alignment accuracy within 1 µm (0.000040 in). The system supports form probing with the T7W or Renishaw SP25–2/5 3D probe systems, allowing comprehensive measurement of diameters, keyways, bores, and other complex 3D features to form tester tolerances.

The Mar4D PLQ 4200’s multisensor technology integrates optical and tactile metrology to cover a wide spectrum of dimensional tasks in a single measuring run. It inspects length, diameter, form, position, contour, roundness, roughness, and 3D geometries such as symmetry — all close to production with high reproducibility and precision.

Key features designed to ensure process stability include a motorized tailstock with clamping force and slip monitoring for quick, operator-independent workpiece fixation and alignment. Real-time monitoring systems detect and compensate for environmental influences like temperature and vibrations. The machine also boasts an ergonomic, safety-oriented design for ease of use and combines future-proof optical and tactile measurement technologies in one platform. The trusted MarWin software reliably evaluates measurement data to deliver consistent quality assessments.
