Generac Power Systems has partnered with smart home technology leader Ecobee to introduce the new Generac Smart Thermostat, a connected solution designed to work seamlessly with Generac’s home standby generators and the upcoming PWRcell 2 solar battery storage system.
The collaboration aims to help homeowners better manage their energy use, reduce power costs, and maintain control during outages, all through a single, streamlined platform.
“As energy costs climb and power outages escalate, we’re offering one integrated solution that helps adapt automatically to homeowners’ energy needs, and deliver significant energy savings, increased comfort and control,” said Kyle Raabe, President of Consumer Power at Generac.
The smart thermostat not only manages HVAC systems to improve home energy efficiency but also reduces the required size of backup systems. It simplifies installation by eliminating the need for additional hardware, resulting in lower upfront costs. Built-in occupancy sensing technology allows the device to adjust settings based on user behavior, with the potential to cut annual heating and cooling expenses by up to 26%.
Ecobee President and CEO Greg Fyke added that the partnership brings additional resilience to homes: “We not only intelligently optimize heating and cooling in the home, but also coordinate electrical loads during generator startup to keep the lights on during an outage.”
The Generac Smart Thermostat, complete with advanced home energy management features, will soon be available for order through Generac’s dealer network. Meanwhile, shipments of the PWRcell 2 solar battery storage system are scheduled to begin in the coming months.
