Norristown Firm Deploys Robot Dogs and Drones for Security Patrols

by Anna

A Norristown company is leading a new wave of private security by deploying robot dogs and drones to clients nationwide. The Asylon Company’s robotic “paw patrols” are now guarding a variety of corporate and manufacturing sites, as well as expanding to large venues like stadiums.

One high-profile deployment includes nighttime patrols at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the AI-powered robot dogs monitor the premises with impressive endurance. These robotic canines can operate for up to 90 minutes continuously and autonomously recharge when their batteries run low.

“Robots do the dull, dirty, and dangerous really, really well,” said Damon Henry, CEO of Asylon. “Imagine a nighttime patrol walking the fence line through the grass at night, acting as a strong deterrent.”

Operating from an old mill building in Norristown, Asylon’s 55-employee team runs a centralized robotics operation center that oversees client properties in real time. From this hub, staff can even launch drones remotely to support surveillance efforts.

Though the robot dogs cannot physically chase suspects, their sensory capabilities rival or exceed those of regular dogs. At this year’s Indianapolis 500, the robots performed sniffing tasks and active surveillance to detect unauthorized people or suspicious objects, including bombs and chemicals.

“They did sniffing, as well as active surveillance, to make sure there weren’t people in places they shouldn’t be, as well as objects or bombs or chemicals that shouldn’t be there,” explained Kendall Queen, a robotics software engineer at Asylon.

The company highlights its solutions as cost-effective and safety-enhancing, allowing robot dogs and drones to scout areas ahead of human workers during events. Some of the robots even earn nicknames from their handlers, such as the dog named “Spike.”

Looking ahead, Asylon aims to expand its robotic security presence to more stadiums, including venues in Philadelphia.
