The rumored DJI Romo, a robot vacuum with integrated mop functionality, appears to be real and edging closer to release. A recent photo shared by China-based drone leaker OsitaLV shows a shipment of six boxed Romo units stacked on a pallet, suggesting the product may soon hit the market.
While DJI has yet to officially confirm the Romo, early reports indicate it will combine vacuuming and mopping capabilities, featuring smart functions such as individual room controls and pet detection. Additional leaked images of the Romo’s companion app reveal advanced features, including automatic self-emptying and robust obstacle avoidance — a hallmark of DJI’s drone technology.
If launched, the Romo would mark DJI’s first entry into the robot vacuum sector. Given DJI’s expertise in automated motion, obstacle detection, and battery management, the move into home robotics seems logical. The company previously released a ground-based educational robot, the RoboMaster S1, in 2019, showing its capacity to diversify beyond drones.
Expanding into robot vacuums could be a strategic pivot for DJI amid challenges in its drone business. Regulatory hurdles and tariffs in the US have limited the availability of new DJI drones like the Mavic 4 Pro in that market.
The robot vacuum industry itself remains competitive yet fragmented, with no single brand dominating. This environment could offer DJI an opportunity to disrupt the market by leveraging its advanced tech and reputation.
With these recent leaks, DJI’s entry into home cleaning robotics might be just around the corner.
