Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, emphasized that each job created and every innovation launched is helping to transform the state into a global electronics hub. On Thursday, Lokesh laid the foundation stone for LG Electronics’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Sri City in Tirupati district, with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Lokesh remarked, “This is not just the beginning of a manufacturing unit. It’s laying the foundation for Andhra Pradesh’s future and a new chapter in the state’s economic development. This project is a milestone in India’s industrial and technological progress. Where innovation and investment meet, the future is built.”

Lokesh highlighted that LG Electronics’ investment of over Rs 5,000 crore underscores global confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s investor-friendly policies. He further noted that the project marks a significant milestone in the journey from “Made in Andhra” to “Made for the World” and stands as one of the first major foreign direct investments (FDI) since the new people’s government was formed.

With an investment of $600 million (Rs 5,001 crores) over four years, LG Electronics will establish a manufacturing ecosystem in the state. The facility, once fully operational, will have an annual production capacity of 800,000 refrigerators, 850,000 washing machines, 1.5 million air conditioners, and 2 million air conditioner compressors. Production is set to begin with air conditioners in 2026, followed by washing machines, refrigerators, and compressors in a phased manner through 2029.

Lokesh expressed his pride in welcoming LG Electronics India Managing Director Hong Ju Jeon and other key leaders, emphasizing the importance of the event. “This is not just about manufacturing; it’s about shaping the future of how we live,” he said. “It’s about creating jobs, empowering youth, and transforming lives. We’re not just building factories; we’re building the future of our state.”

The LG facility is expected to directly create 1,500 jobs. Additionally, LG’s vendor partners will invest Rs 839 crore, generating over 690 more jobs. The project will significantly boost the local economy and strengthen the electronics ecosystem in the region.

By manufacturing key components like compressors and heat exchangers locally, LG aims to enhance its supply chain and reduce dependency on imports. Sri City founder MD Ravindra Sanna Reddy, Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar, and local MLAs also attended the ceremony.
