ZF Unveils Hybrid Transmission and e-comp Air Compressor at ACT Expo

by Anna

ZF, a global leader in truck, trailer, and bus technology, is showcasing two groundbreaking products at the 2025 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo. The company is debuting the North American version of its TraXon 2 hybrid transmission and the global premiere of the e-comp Scroll, a next-generation air compressor designed specifically for electric and hybrid commercial vehicles.

TraXon 2 Hybrid Transmission: A Step Toward Cleaner Mobility

ZF’s TraXon 2 hybrid represents the next phase of its modular automated manual transmission system (AMT). Optimized for fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, the hybrid version is designed to enhance performance across a range of commercial vehicle platforms. The TraXon 2 hybrid offers up to 14% CO2 emission reduction and fuel savings for short-haul operations and up to 9% for long-haul applications in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) setups. In Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) applications, depending on factors like charging infrastructure and vehicle weight, it can achieve up to 40% CO2 emission reduction.

Key features of the e-comp Scroll include:

Low Noise and Vibration: The air compressor operates at 67 dB(A) at 250 liters per minute, roughly the sound level of an office, making it ideal for electric vehicles that are inherently quieter than traditional vehicles.

Oil-Free Operation: By eliminating oil lubrication, the e-comp Scroll reduces maintenance needs and improves energy efficiency, automatically switching off between compression cycles to save power.

Energy Efficient: Powered by an electric motor, it can compress air up to 12.5 bar with variable speeds, and includes an inverter and liquid cooling to optimize performance and energy savings.

A Step Forward in Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles

The e-comp Scroll is part of ZF’s expanding portfolio of innovations aimed at accelerating the transition to zero-emission commercial vehicle mobility. The advanced air compressor technology helps ensure quieter, more efficient operation, enhancing the driving experience and supporting the industry’s move toward cleaner transportation solutions.

Both the TraXon 2 hybrid transmission and e-comp Scroll will play crucial roles in ZF’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable mobility solutions, marking significant milestones in the future of clean transportation.
