ADDiVAL Boosts Production with Renishaw AM Tech

by jingji47

Barcelona-based additive manufacturing firm ADDiVAL has acquired Renishaw’s RenAM 500Q Ultra system to scale up production of its patented industrial punch components. The collaboration builds on existing joint development work between the two companies, targeting high-volume applications in tube bending and sheet metal stamping.

High-Volume Precision Manufacturing

ADDiVAL currently produces 100-120 punches monthly, meeting stringent industry standards including 60 HRC surface hardness with post-processing heat treatment. The Renishaw system will enable serial production while maintaining these rigorous specifications. “After evaluating alternatives like binder jetting, Renishaw’s solution delivered the productivity and cost-efficiency we needed,” said ADDiVAL Director Borja Batlle.

Game-Changing TEMPUS Technology

A key differentiator was Renishaw’s TEMPUS™ parallel processing technology, which eliminates downtime between powder layers. “The system begins laser melting while simultaneously spreading new powder layers, cutting production time by up to 50%,” explained Renishaw AM Applications Manager Marc Gardon. This breakthrough addresses traditional inefficiencies in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) systems.

Expanding Industrial Applications

While initially focused on tube manufacturing tools, ADDiVAL plans to adapt the technology for broader metal forming applications. The RenAM 500Q Ultra’s quad-laser configuration and 500W power provide the throughput and detail resolution needed for industrial-scale AM part production.

A Strategic Leap for European AM

This partnership represents a significant step in industrializing metal AM, combining ADDiVAL’s component expertise with Renishaw’s production-grade systems. As Batlle notes, “The Renishaw solution finally gave us the speed-to-market and per-part economics required for serial production.” The deal underscores growing demand for AM solutions that bridge prototyping and full-scale manufacturing.
