Sandvik, a prominent player in the manufacturing industry, has made a significant move to expand its digital manufacturing capabilities by acquiring Postability, a leading provider of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software solutions. Postability’s software solution encompasses CAM post-processing, machine simulation, and maintenance tools, empowering customers to optimize and validate their component designs. The pivotal role of post-processing in converting generic CAM system output into machine-specific NC-code makes it a crucial step in the component manufacturing process, ensuring precision and efficiency.

As a dedicated post processor provider for Mastercam software, Postability has carved a niche in serving both small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide. Mastercam, a leading provider of CAD/CAM software solutions, will integrate Postability as part of its business unit, Mastercam, which in turn will be reported within Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions.

“The acquisition of Postability aligns perfectly with our strategic focus to thrive in the digital manufacturing landscape and complements our existing CAM solutions offering,” stated Stefan Widing, President, and CEO of Sandvik. “Post processing plays a vital role in the CAM process, paving the way for new and innovative automated design solutions in manufacturing.”

Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, Postability’s expertise in CAM software has earned it a significant market presence. In 2022, the company reported revenues of approximately SEK 30 million (CAD 4.1 million), underscoring its relevance in the industry.

While the acquisition is expected to have a positive impact on Sandvik’s digital manufacturing growth strategy, its effect on the company’s EBITA margin and earnings per share will be limited. The parties involved have mutually agreed not to disclose the purchase price, respecting the confidential nature of the transaction.

Sandvik’s investment in Postability demonstrates its commitment to driving innovation in the manufacturing sector and providing cutting-edge solutions to its global customer base. As the digital manufacturing landscape continues to evolve, Sandvik’s strategic acquisition positions it to deliver enhanced value and efficiency to the industry.
