Swedish industrial leader Atlas Copco Group celebrated a major milestone by officially opening its new China headquarters for compressor technologies in Wuxi, Jiangsu province. The $416 million (3 billion yuan) campus marks the company’s largest investment in the region since 1997, signaling a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability in one of its fastest-growing markets.
The Wuxi facility will serve as a global hub for research, development, manufacturing, and distribution of Atlas Copco’s renowned air and gas compressors, vacuum systems, and energy-efficient technologies. Since launching its first production site in Wuxi in 1994, Atlas Copco has expanded significantly, with products from the site reaching over 180 countries.
“China’s role in our growth is critical,” said Vagner Rego, Atlas Copco’s global CEO. He emphasized the campus’s alignment with China’s booming semiconductor, automotive, and renewable energy industries, all driving demand for advanced solutions.
Designed as an intelligent green factory, the campus features energy-saving technologies like variable speed compressors and oil-free systems to reduce industrial electricity consumption—important in China where compressors use over 9% of industrial power. A new heat pump system also captures and reuses compressor waste heat to lower carbon emissions.
Rego highlighted the company’s commitment to China’s carbon neutrality goals, pledging continued investment in locally tailored innovations and a dedicated R&D center to leverage China’s talent and supply chain.
“Our Wuxi team’s expertise and collaboration with local suppliers position us to create breakthroughs that support global industries in achieving greener operations,” Rego added.
