WFL to Showcase Advanced Machining Solutions at AMB 2024 with Live Demonstrations

by jingji47

WFL is set to make a strong impression at the upcoming AMB 2024 trade fair in Stuttgart from September 10-14, where the company will exhibit two of its advanced MILLTURN machines along with innovative automation solutions. The display will feature the compact yet powerful M20-G MILLTURN with a 1500mm capacity and the larger M50 MILLTURN capable of handling 3000mm workpieces, demonstrating WFL’s commitment to precision machining across different industry requirements. Visitors will witness live machining demonstrations of complex aerospace components and power generation parts, highlighting the machines’ capabilities in handling demanding industrial applications.

The M20-G MILLTURN, known for its stability and comprehensive motor spindle concept, will soon expand its offerings with additional center distance versions of 2000mm and 3000mm to accommodate longer shaft parts. At the trade fair, this machine will be put to the test machining a challenging 150mm long, 300mm diameter aviation industry chuck part. Meanwhile, the M50 MILLTURN will showcase its prowess by processing a substantial 600mm diameter, 2355mm long power generation shaft, complete with turbine blades and specialized profiles, demonstrating WFL’s expertise in large-scale precision machining.

A key highlight of WFL’s exhibition will be the demonstration of its Quick Change System, an innovative solution for horizontal complete machining of chuck parts. This advanced system features a high-precision, fully variable clamping mechanism that enables automatic tool changes between the machine and storage units. The process incorporates various clamping tools including pallets, power chucks, and mandrels, with workpieces being precisely aligned on external vertical clamping tables before automated transfer to the machine. The system’s versatility will be showcased using the M80 MILLTURN as an example, emphasizing the advantages of rapid, precise equipment exchange in modern manufacturing environments.

Automation takes center stage in WFL’s presentation with the introduction of its mobile robot system developed in partnership with FRAI. The mobileCELL demonstration will feature an automated guided vehicle (AGV) equipped with a robot that handles workpiece and tool transportation with remarkable efficiency. Using QR code scanning for precise positioning and equipped with specialized grippers for HSK-63 tools and Baruffaldi tool turrets, these autonomous units operate without cables or human intervention. Their advanced obstacle avoidance capabilities make them particularly valuable in dynamic industrial settings where layouts frequently change, offering a glimpse into the future of flexible factory automation.
