Phillips Integrates Meltio Engine Blue into Haas CNC for Defense

by Anna

Phillips Corp., a leader in manufacturing technology, and Meltio, a pioneer in laser metal deposition, have announced a significant advancement in defense manufacturing. Phillips has become the first Meltio partner globally to successfully integrate the Meltio Engine Blue into a Haas CNC machine, marking a milestone in hybrid manufacturing by combining additive and subtractive processes into a unified workflow.

Meltio’s laser-wire metal 3D printing system uses welding wire to enhance traditional CNC machining. The Meltio Engine Blue integration enables defense and industrial manufacturers to upgrade their Haas CNC platforms with metal additive capabilities, delivering a flexible and scalable solution for producing mission-critical components.

Phillips Corp., renowned for its work with defense and government agencies, deepens its partnership with Meltio through this integration. The first Meltio Engine Blue was installed in a Haas TM-1r CNC machine and showcased at the RAPID + TCT event in Detroit, Michigan, in April 2025. This hybrid setup allows defense manufacturers to fabricate complex metal parts with increased precision, faster turnaround times, and less material waste.

This breakthrough builds on previous successful collaborations between Phillips and Meltio, including deploying Meltio’s technology on a U.S. Navy ship for on-demand metal part production and the U.S. Department of Defense’s use of Meltio’s wire-laser metal 3D printing to boost supply chain resilience.

To share insights on this innovation, Phillips and Meltio will host a live webinar on June 11, 2025, at 17:00 CET (11:00 AM EDT). The session will introduce the Meltio Engine Blue, detail its integration with Haas CNC machines, and explore how this hybrid manufacturing approach enhances efficiency. A live demonstration and a Q&A with experts from both companies will conclude the event.
